The Great London Plane Tree of Ely is ailing, and I created this oil and cold wax painting of an area of the tree where damage has occurred.  When this happens, it will grow it's bark around the damaged area to heal itself.  Nature is amazing!  This is a stunningly beautiful veteran tree, approximately 365 years old, growing in the Old Palace garden in Ely.  Some cutting edge conservation work is being carried out to monitor and preserve the tree for as long as is possible.  I will donate 10% of the sale of this painting to the preservation fund.  Oil and cold wax painting on cradled panel, set in a white tray frame, overall size 23 x 23 cm.
